Poor postal service
The postal service of our country is unsatisfactory. Go to any post office and you will observe the following:
1. The post office is always overcrowded. There is a long queue at all the counters.
2. The staff are uncooperative and look overworked/undernourished.
3. There are few "HELP" counters and the service is not satisfactory.
4. Letters posted from Ramna P.O. takes 4 to 6 days to reach Gulshan area, Dhaka.
5. Upcountry letters take many days to reach the destinations. Sometimes letters go "missing".
6. In view of the above, people are compelled to take the "services" of "Courier Companies" and pay a high charge.
7. It is a fact that the postal authorities have not taken any bold step to "Reorganise and Modernise" the system and improve the facilities. People do not mind to pay a little bit more for better and efficient service.
Our neighbouring country India has modernised the entire "Postal System" which is fast and efficient. You can post a letter by 5:00pm at any post office of the five Metropolitan cities like Kolkata/New Delhi/Mumbai/Chennai/Bangalore and it will be delivered next day by 11:00am. Most of the "Telegrams" and "Money Orders' are sent by email to remote destinations. The "Postal Savings System" has been modernised and updated so that people can get better/efficient service at lesser costs than banks. Hence, people of modest means deposit much of their savings at post offices.
Therefore, I would humbly request our Honourable Adviser for Post & Telegraphs to look into this matter and take some effective steps to improve the system.
