Priorities of grand alliance government

Shafiqul Islam, NY
The BNP's 4 party alliance immediately after wining the election in 2001 fixed their first priority as to attack the minority communities and torch the homes who, according to them, voted against them. The DS of 18th February published a commentary on the AL grand alliance questioning the alliance's priority like 'change of names'. Both the parties came to power twice but they did not learn from their own experiences of their own previous terms. The BNP's first term ended moderately trouble free while its second term ended with infamous "1/11'. AL's first term ended well but its behaviour in the present term looks similar to BNP's. The BCL has already earned a good name by implementing their priorities on the university campuses. Their unabated trades in admission, tender manipulations, capturing of halls, taking over possessions of extortion sites in and around the education centres have gained public astonishment about this government. The opposition did not need to help in this regard to earn this credit, the alliance earned it for themselves. Withdrawal of all corruption cases against the AL leaders, calling them as politically motivated ones, have added more credit in their bags. For changing names, we are not worried because we are the same kind of people living in two baskets. I believe, nothing new is waiting for us in future. It does not matter much to us. The next government will restore the changed names to their previous positions. What we are worried about is our future generation. We are in confusion where to admit our children. If there were separate universities and schools for the general masses where supporters of these two groups were not there, we could choose to send our children there for good education with separate education curriculum and syllabus with "no hall capture, no extortion, no party,no fighting" etc.
