Hartal on June 27
Declares Khaleda at Paltan rally; speaks of new election to get an effective parliament (May 20, 2010) As a citizen of Bangladesh, we feel ashamed abroad when our politicians call 'hartal'. Begum Zia could have considered other forms of protests, rather than this old tactic.
Mizanur Rahman Khaleda Zia will remain Khaleda Zia, she will never change. She never could become the people's leader.
G.M. Panaullah History is going to be repeated. The BNP is doing what the AL did by using the hartal culture which hurts the national economy and its image. But the ruling party, at any given time, should refrain from creating the grounds for such desperate action by the opposition.
Ashim Dhar We cannot possibly go back to the culture of hartal anymore. Although the precedence was set by the AL in the past, it must be denounced. It will cripple our economy; it is against the interest of the nation. It will destabilize the country, if not the government. We need an urgent solution. No more hartal, please.
Shamima Begum Shelley The very fact that Khaleda Zia could address the rally at Paltan so peacefully is proof that there exists a relatively much better law and order situation than her time. In a similar rally of the Awami League during her time, the present PM was almost killed in a terrorist attack. She claimed that about 1500MW power was added to the national grid during her time. Where has it gone?
Khondkar Abdus Saleque The BNP is alienating itself from the people. This is simply embarrassing.
Rafik I thought there was a law against hartal during the caretaker regime, if not there should be one, as the political battles ruin normal life and business.
Sultana Razia As a citizen, I have nothing to say if hartal is observed peacefully. In our country, hartal is imposed on the people. The AL or the BNP, whoever calls hartal, it will be successful!
