Honour the hero

Mahbub Mamun, Banani, Dhaka
I read with great interest the recommendations of Sir Frank Peters of honouring Bangladesh's newest hero Musa Ibrahim with a postage stamp (Daily Star 5/7/10). I entirely agree. No doubt Sir Frank has the best of intentions and sound reason for proposing the stamp. In most countries, including his, it would truly be a befitting accolade to receive from the nation, but has Sir Frank ever seen our stamps? I think he would be horrified. They are the dullest and most boring on earth (!) and I've often wondered who would ever want to collect them. Instead of being a miniature Mona Lisa as issued by the majority of countries, most of ours are stuck in a 40-year-old time warp, showing no imagination or creativity whatsoever. My family and I are all for the Bangladesh Post Office issuing a stamp in Musa's honour, provided they raise their standards and do it properly.
