Load shedding

Tanha Kashfia Kate, Uttara Model Town, Dhaka
Name the country, where load shedding takes place almost every alternative hour! Yes, that is Bangladesh, where failure of the government has already put the entire nation into severe sufferings due to increased power shortage thus causing regular load shedding in every alternative hour in the capital city. Most of the urban parts of the country remain dark for an average of 10-15 hours a day. Power distribution lines have been expanded over the years to cover more consumers but the production of electricity did not increase. The present government got a landslide victory in December 29 general election with their major promise of implementing their plan of 'Digital Bangladesh'. It is known to all that for any such highly ambitious plan, smooth supply of power is the first requirement. This much publicized plan of the present government in Bangladesh will have a nosedive soon due to lack of sufficient power supply in the entire country. Presently, the country experiences power shortage of 1000 MW to 1200 MW. With our energy crisis deepening, conservation of electricity has become a must. Some possible things we can do to conserve electricity are: Turn off the lights and fans when leaving a room. Spread awareness among our local community. Replace old light bulbs with energy saving fluorescent bulbs. Turn off all electronic devices that are not in use. Not only turn them off but try to remember to unplug them. Remember, our small actions can make a big difference.
