RMG sector is the vital sector for our economic growth. It earns about three-fourths of the country's earning from export of goods. Approximately 3.5 million people are directly employed in this arena. Ipso facto it is a very sensitive sector. Our country has already built up a good will in apparel exports over three decades. This goodwill among buyers is the best asset in continuing to be a leading player in the export of RMG products in world market. Eerily, Bangladesh RMGs are facing intermittent serious violence these days. The government should intervene for fixing the minimum wage, which will be affordable for the owners and the workers can survive with their families. A signal has gone to buyers of RMG products in the last couple of days about the unrest in this sector. As a consequence, European Union (EU) has expressed anxiety. If the anarchy continues, the importers of Bangladeshi RMG products may think to switch to other countries. For the sake of our economy, the government should enter the picture immediately.
