Recognising our heroes
Over the last few days this subject has been brought up by Sir Frank Peters, and I believe his views must be seriously considered. Climbing Mount Everest is one such achievement, accomplished by a self motivated Bangladeshi climber Musa Ibrahim! Giving him national recognition and award is the least that he deserves; and it has rightly been given to a real adventurous spirit, that he had really earned, without any official encouragement, backing or support!
However, to have the recognition spread far and wide, there is no better way than printing postage stamps, honouring this great man for his great achievement. If it is printed in denominations say like taka one, two, five and ten, then many will post letters overseas and use these stamps for posting.
This way, people abroad and also many people receiving letters from Bangladesh, be it private or official, will become aware of this singular achievement of a Bangladeshi! Also, thousands of stamp collectors all over the world, will collect these stamps. This way we can spread the news far and wide.
I strongly support this novel proposal, and the government should consider it as a matter of our national pride!
