As reported in the daily “Khaleej Times” of 19/12/2010, the government of the UAE in a landmark decision has eased the job rules. The UAE Labour Minister Saqr Ghobash said that the decision is being taken to infuse broader flexibility in the labour market. Under the new regulations, an expatriate worker on expiry of his contract will be allowed to shift to another employer without the consent of his sponsor and without facing the present six-month ban period. The new regulations will also protect the right of a worker to shift to another job on grounds, such as, non-compliance of the employer with legal and labour obligations towards the worker or in the case where the worker has no role in terminating the work relationship, etcetera. I join UAE Labour Minister Saqr Ghobash in hoping that the new job regulations would play a major role towards creating an efficient labour market and improving employer-worker relationship. Meanwhile, I sincerely hope that the new job regulations will increase the opportunity for the Bangladeshi workers to enter UAE job market.
