7 die in road crashes
At least seven people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Natore, Pabna, Benapole and Narayanganj districts on Saturday and yesterday.
Our correspondent from Natore reports: Four people were killed and three others injured in a road accident near Khezurtola area under Singra upazila yesterday.
Of the deceased, two were identified as Sadhunna Kumar, 50, of Majhgan village under Singra upazila and an auto rickshaw driver Bablu, 55, of Kanaikhali of Natore. Two more deceased could not be identified immediately.
Witnesses said the accident took place when a Bogra-bound bus from Rajshashi collided head-on with a battery run auto rickshaw.
Our correspondent form Pabna adds: An elderly woman was killed in a road mishap on Dhaka-Pabna highway near Pushpopara Bazar area at Pabna Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased is identified as Amena Beawa, 80, of village Purba-Karigarpara of Ataikula.
Police said the accident took place at about 12:00pm when a speedy bus hit her while Amena was crossing the road, leaving her dead on the spot.
UNB from Benapole says: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident on Jessore-Benapole road at Dhopakhola village on Saturday.
Azizul Islam, 40, son of Amjad Ali of Mahisha Kura village in Sharsha upazila, was killed on the spot when his motorcycle suddenly skidded and fell on roadside.
Police said Azizul was a drug peddler and was carrying Phensidyl during the accident.
UNB from Narayanganj adds: A rickshaw puller died in a road accident at Dhaka-Narayanganj link road on Saturday morning.
The deceased Md Mantu Mia, 30, son of Jalfu Pradhan of Isaidar Burir Dokan area of Fatullah thana.
Police said a Narayanganj-bound bus of Utshab Paribahan hit the rickshaw coming from opposite direction at about 8:30am Saturday and badly wounded Mantu Mia.
He was admitted to Khanpur Hospital but he died at 9:30am.
Police sized the bus but its driver and helper fled away.
