Municipal Polls

'AL threatening BNP candidates'

Staff Correspondent
The main opposition BNP yesterday alleged that the ruling party is threatening the BNP-backed candidates who are set to contest in upcoming municipal elections. “Ruling party cadres are frequently attacking opposition candidates and their supporters as they want to hold a one-sided poll,” said Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, joint secretary general of BNP. At a briefing at the party's central office, he also alleged the ruling party cadres kidnapped a BNP-backed mayoral candidate in Kishoreganj and killed one, Sirajul Haque, in Khagrachhari. They have beaten many BNP leaders and workers in Pirojpur and Rajshahi, he added. Rizvi also condemned the killing of Khalilur Rahman of visually impaired welfare association and Ramna Masjid Imam Mohammad Ishaq. Replying to a query, he said BNP has solitary candidate for the municipal polls claiming that there are no intra-party problems.
