Charge framing hearing Jan 23, 27
A Dhaka court yesterday fixed January 23 for the hearing on charge framing against Jamaat leader Mir Kashem Ali in connection with a tax evasion case.
Meantime, another Dhaka court fixed January 27 for hearing on the same against former BNP state minister Fazlur Rahman Patal.
Judge Mohammad Zohurul Hoque of the Senior Special Judge's Court set the date after Kashem furnished bail bond against a bail order from the High Court (HC) on August 22 last year.
On August 19, Tax Commissioner Moniruzzaman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) filed a case against Kashem on charge of evading income tax.
The statement against Kashem says he evaded Tk 11,28,235 in income tax on Tk 34,85,866 earned through Keari Limited as its chairman and director. It also states that Kashem repeatedly misinformed NBR on his actual income.
CASE AGAINST PATAL
Judge AKM Aminul Islam of the Special Judge's Court-1 fixed the date following a time petition from the prosecution. In the case statement filed against Fazlur Rahman on March 1 last year, NBR Deputy Tax Commissioner Mizanur Rahman said he evaded Tk 7.50 lakh tax on his income of Tk 26.10 lakh in 2005-2006 fiscal year. Fazlur Rahman provided false information on his real income and expenditure, even though he was an influential minister, alleged the NBR statement. He was earlier sued for non-submission of wealth statement to the now-defunct bureau of anti-corruption and for acquiring wealth through illegal means and concealing it in his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
