Municipal Elections

Call to nominate honest people

Staff Correspondent
Citizen for Good Governance (Shujon) yesterday urged the political parties to nominate honest and efficient candidates who work for people's interest. The candidates in municipal polls must hold the qualities to establish the rule of law and good governance, said Shujon leaders to a human chain at Manik Mia Avenue in the city. Shujon President Prof Muzaffer Ahmad said the contestants now are forced to provide detail information to Election Commission for the constant movement of Shujon. "Election Commission has continuously been trying to organise free and fair election, yet it has to face many unseen obstacles. We must be aware of it." He added that they want the polls be free from the influence of black money and every candidate and voter obey the electoral rules and regulations. The rights organisation also formed human chains at the districts, upazilas, and municipalities where the municipal elections will be held soon. A good number of teachers, students, and people took part in the programmes. TIB Trustee Board Chairman M Hafizuddin Khan, Prof Tofayel Ahmed, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, and Zakir Hossain also spoke at the human chain in the city.
