EC to deploy army in Habiganj, B'baria

Election Commission has decided to deploy army in the by-elections in the constituencies of Habiganj-1 and Brahmanbaria-3 slated for January 27. Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain made the announcement after a meeting with law enforcing agencies at EC secretariat yesterday. Sakhawat said army will remain posted for five days before and after the polls. EC has decided on army since police and Rab will discharge other poll duties and oversee Biswa Ijtema and World Cup Cricket, he added. Sakhawat also revealed EC's decision to deploy army during municipal elections in Naogaon and Munshiganj. Election Commissioner M Sohul Hussain, EC Secretary Dr M Sadik, and senior law enforcement officials attended the meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda.
