Sheikh Rehana, youngest daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, yesterday called upon all to save birds saying a number of bird species of the country is becoming extinct day by day. "We all should care more about birds and grow more affection for the independent but weak creature," she told a launching ceremony of a book titled “A photographic guide to birds of Bangladesh” written by Ronald R Halder. Independent University, Bangladesh organised the function on its Bashundhara campus in the city. Ronald R Halder said the lives of two birds of every eight birds in the globe are at stake and destruction of birds' habitat is the main reason behind their extinction. The book is first of its kind in the country to recognise birds through illustration. It contains photographs of 472 main species birds in Bangladesh, said the organisers. IUB Governing Council Chairman Towhid Samad; Vice Chancellor (in charge) Prof M Omar Rahman; IUCN Country Representative Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan; Ornithologist and Bangladesh Bird Club President Enam Ul Haque and environmentalist Enam Talukdar also spoke.
