Teddy Bear in New Year
Teddy Bears as toys are very popular among the kids. In the United States of America, there is a non-profit corporation named The Theodore Roosevelt Association (founded in 1919) which among other socio-cultural functions provides Teddy Bears as gift to thousands of hospitalised children around the United States.
There is a legend associated to the naming of Teddy Bear. About 100 years ago, President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States went on a bear hunt but even after three days of his untiring efforts, he couldn't find a single bear to hunt. Finally, his hunting dogs managed to locate an old bear and attacked and injured the bear. The bear was very tired. The President was told to shoot the poor bear but he didn't. “No! No one would shoot this old bear for sport. That would not be right,” President Roosevelt said and let the bear go. Hearing the above story, a political cartoonist Berryman drew a cartoon depicting President Roosevelt referring to shoot the bear while hunting in Mississippi.
After publication of Berryman's cartoon in the newspaper, a shopkeeper named Morris Michton got the idea to name his toy bears as “Teddy Bears,” and of course with the permission of President Roosevelt. Here from starts the manufacturing of Teddy Bears.
