Rehabilitate the beggars permanently

It is an innovative idea of the Chittagong city authorities to pay hundreds of beggars a daily wage to keep them off the streets during the Cricket World Cup. Accordingly, about 300 disabled street beggars would be given Tk. 150 each a day in order to keep them offs the streets at least for two months during the world cup. A news item published in the newspapers also says that the beggars will get other benefits like free food and clothes for staying off the streets. This is undoubtedly a good decision by the CCC authorities who deserve thanks for being so considerate. They also deserve appreciation for not being cruel by taking any measures to drive these helpless people out of the city. Now, it would be all the more prudent and appropriate if the authorities in collaboration with the government try to find out some ways to keep these beggars in-door permanently. If the homeless and helpless people are given some sort of training on various skills as per their capabilities, they can be turned into a work force and gradually in this way the country can get rid of the beggars. I hope if initiatives are taken in this regard, some humanitarian organisations will extend their helping hands for the noble cause of rehabilitating the beggars.
