Road crashes kill eight

Eight people were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in Cox’s Bazar, Satkhira and Dinajpur districts on Friday and yesterday. CU correspondent reports: Three people were killed and another was injured as a microbus overturned and hit two pedestrians on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in Chakaria upazila yesterday. The deceased are Ismail Hossain, 40, a teacher of Goyalmara Ebtedai Madrasa, son of Mostafizur Rahman, and Al Mobin, 8, a student of the madrasa, son of Md Elias. Both are pedestrians and residents of Goyalmara village under Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The other deceased, driver of the microbus could not be identified immediately. Injured one passenger was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. When the news of death spread, students of the madrasa along with locals ransacked at least eight microbuses and transport movements remained suspended on Chittgaong-Cox’s Bazar highway. Our correspondent from Satkhira says: Two people including a grand mother and her grand daughter were killed and two others injured in a road accident when a Jessore-bound mini bus hit a rickshaw from behind on Satkhira-Jessore in front of Gopinathpur primary school in Kalaroa upazila road yesterday. The deceased were identified as Rashida Begum, 50, wife of Rafiqul Islam and Suraiya Begum, 8, daughter of Zahangir Hossain of village Bikrampur in Kalaroa upazila. The injured were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital in critical condition. Our correspondent from Dinajpur adds: A minor boy was killed and two other minor girls were wounded as a power tiller trolley hit them while they were crossing the Phulbari-Rangpur highway in Parbatipur upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Linkan, 3, son of Binti Lanker, an indigenous family of Pachpukuria village of Parbatipur upazila. The two injured were admitted to Phulbari Health Complex with critical condition. Our correspondent from Natore says: A rickshaw-van passenger was dead on the spot and the driver was injured while a goods-laden truck hit the rickshaw-van from behind at South Lalpur under Lalpur upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Jhantu Mia, son of Afsar Ali Lalu, of Natunhat village under Ishardi upazila in Pabna. Our correspondent from Jamalpur adds: A six-year-old child, Nayon, son of Babul Mia, was killed as a sand-laden truck hit him at Mukudabari of Jamalpur yesterday.
