MiG-29 Case
Arguments on May 18
A Dhaka court yesterday concluded recording statements of the MiG-29 purchase graft case filed against five people in 2001.
After recording statements of five witnesses including investigation officer (IO) of the case, Judge Abdul Majid of Special Court for Dhaka Division passed the order and fixed May 18 for arguments from the prosecution and the defence.
The same court recorded statements of complainant Abdullah Al Zahid, deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and 26 other witnesses on April 18 and May 3.
The accused are Air Marshal (Retd) Jamal Uddin Ahmed, former Defence Secretary Syed Yusuf Hossain, Air Commodore (Retd) Mirza Akhter Maruf, former joint secretary Hossain Serniabat and Unique Group Managing Director Nur Ali.
Of them, Akhter Maruf was present during the yesterday's hearing while lawyers represented three others. Nur Ali was absent in the court.
The High Court quashed the case proceedings against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was also an accused in the case, on March 9 last year.
