Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad yesterday called upon all to work unitedly for the welfare of the country and nation nurturing the ideals Gautama Buddha had left for the peace-loving people of the world. “Gautama Buddha had preached the messages of peace and humanity throughout his life and his aim was to build the world as an abode of peace for the people,” he said while addressing a discussion in the city as the chief guest. Bangladesh Bouddha Kristi Prachar Sangha organised the discussion at Dharmarajik Bouddha Mohabihar at Sabujbag on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. Earlier, Industries Minister Dilip Barua inaugurated the daylong celebration of the Buddhist community at Mohabihar. The function was also addressed by former principal Dr PK Barua with Sangha President Shuddhananda Mohathero in the chair. The celebration started with lighting of lamps and hosting of the national and religious flags atop the Mohabihar and chanting of sacred verses from the Tripitaka.
