Move to recover 1,000 acres Bhawal forest land

Bss, Gazipur
The government will launch a drive to recover about 1,000 acres of khas land of Bhawal forest illegally grabbed by industrialists and individuals during the BNP-Jamaat regime. The land ministry identified 93 industrialists and 54 individuals grabbing about 1,000 acres of forest worth about Tk 1,000 crore during the four-party alliance government, but the decision to recover the land remained shelved for long. The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Land will meet on May 26 to discuss the progress of its recommendations, including the recovery of Bhawal forest. “None is above law, whatever power he or she enjoys. None would be allowed to keep the land under his/her possession illegally,” Minister for Land Rezaul Karim Hira said. He said the government has already identified the land grabbers of Bhawal forest and action will be taken against them to recover the land soon. Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Land AKM Mozammel Haque said the forest department has prepared a list of 93 organisations and 54 individuals, who grabbed 1,000.55 acres of forest land submitting fake documents and false statements. He said the parliamentary standing committee will discuss it on May 26.
