Stop commercialisation of higher education

Speakers at an even urged the government to stop those educational institutions, which are run without maintaining quality education for gaining commercial interest. They also urged the education ministry and other bodies concerned to monitor education system properly, including higher education, to ensure standard of education. They made the call at a publishing ceremony of two books--"Uchchasiksha O Prasangik Bhabna" and "Protikriti Ei Desh Ei Samoy" written by Prof Abdul Mannan--at Theatre Institute, Chittagong on Saturday evening. University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof AK Azad Chowdhury was the chief guest while Primer University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Anupom Sen was in the chair. AK Azad said any deceptive act could not be run in any higher educational institution like university, as it is the highest body of producing knowledge. Pointing out gap between teachers and students, Azad assured that the UGC would work to bring back accountability of the university teachers. Veteran revolutionary Binod Bihary Chowdhury, former Chittagong University (CU) VC Alamgir Mohammad Sirajuddin, East-Delta University VC Prof Sikandar Khan, CU VC Prof Anwarul Azim Arif, Prof Moinul Islam of Economics department of CU and Prothom Alo Resident Editor Abul Momen also spoke.
