HC drops Moudud's petition from cause list

Staff Correspondent
A High Court bench yesterday dropped from its cause list a petition filed by former law minister Moudud Ahmed for quashing the proceedings of a corruption case against him. The bench of Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Anwarul Haque passed the order saying that the petitioner (Moudud) can move the petition before any other bench. It, however, did not mention any ground for throwing away the matter from the cause list, Moudud's lawyer Ahsanul Karim told The Daily Star. He said his client has filed the petition with the HC bench on July 24 for quashing the proceedings of the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against him. The bench held hearing on the petition on July 26 and fixed July 31 (yesterday) for passing order, Ahsanul said. Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan, a lawyer for ACC, said he did not know the reason for making the petition of Moudud out of list. ACC filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on September 16 in 2007.
