Glittering Afternoon

Sunanda Kabir
'Where, please?' you enquired
But didn't expect any answer
I knew Cigar within two fingers
And the idle posture of the left hand
on the steering
Unmanaged curly hair
Grey punjabi wound up at the wrist!
I was looking at you Oh, my second childhood!
Have you always asked me and
Wanted to know our destination?
I rather desired to say :
Let's go Crossing the boundaries of the earth
To some other planet
In the profound attachment of blooming mohua
Where the shadow of some
resting birds exists There on the horizon after day's toil,
Wooing of the desirous couple
Let's go and pray . . .
If the thirsty bud of mallika could bloom
With our last drop of sweat!
Sunanda Kabir writes fiction and is a poet.
