Khaleda asked to testify her claim about Jamaat
Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta yesterday urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to give deposition in favour of Jamaat leaders to International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) if she has obtained enough evidence that they did not commit war crimes in 1971.
"Khaleda has started giving certificate that who is war criminal and who is not. But where did she stay during the liberation war, how could she see it?", he said.
Criticising a number of recent comments of Khaleda, he said now Khaleda is talking like the Jamaat Ameer and spreading confusion among the people.
About Khaleda's recent threat to launch another "liberation war", Suranjit said she wants to launch war, joining hands with war criminals. But the people and pro-liberation forces are ready to counter the battle, he said.
Suranjti was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion styled "Role of Khaleda and Zia in rehabilitating the war criminals" organised by Awami Shilpi Gosthi at Dhaka Reporters' Unity.
In response to Khaleda's comment that AL leaders are war criminals, he said, "Please disclose their name. We will launch investigation over them."
Suranjit alleged that BNP-Jammat alliance during its tenure wanted to safeguard the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman, but they failed. Now they are trying to protect the war criminals, he said.
In a separate discussion, Suranjit suggested Khaleda Zia to come to the parliament to talk on different issues like caretaker government and war crimes trial.
"The government's door will remain open till the last date of its tenure for discussion. Please, come to the parliament to discuss instead of demonstrating in streets", he said.
