8 deals inked to improve gas transmission

Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL), a company of Petrobangla, yesterday signed eight contract agreements with two foreign and six local companies for installation of compressor stations and construction of transmission pipelines to improve transmission and distribution of gas. “These vital infrastructural projects would help augment transmission capacity of the national gas grid, improve transmission and distribution pressure and upgrade operational flexibility of GTCL,” said Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, energy adviser to the prime minister, at the agreement signing ceremony here. The eight projects will be implemented at a cost of Tk 1414.61 crore and World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) are providing financial support. According to GTCL, Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd of South Korea will install compressor stations at Ashuganj and Elenga at a cost of Tk 854.09 crore. It is expected to be completed by July 2013. FERNAS Construction Company, Inc. of Turkey has given the contract for construction of 60-kilometre Bakhrabad-Siddhirganj 30-inchi Dia Gas Transmission Pipeline at a cost of Tk 460.52 crore. The government and the WB are jointly financing the project that will be completed by June 2012.
