HR boss slams jail authorities
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Prof Mizanur Rahman said irregularities are taking place in all jails of the country over food distribution among inmates.
"Every prisoner is supposed to have 166.66 grams of food at each meal. Instead, they get only 100 grams", he said. "There is business with the remaining 66.66 grams of food".
"I want to get the answer from the Inspector General of Prisons that where does the profit go? How does the corruption occur?", he asked.
The NHRC chairman made the remark at a seminar on corruption organised by Shadhinota and Nagorik Odhikar Forum in the city's BIISS auditorium on Thursday.
He also talked about irregularities in Sylhet. "The Sylhet jail authorities did not allow me to visit the jail, as they provide treatment in its hospital in exchange of money".
