A local senior journalist suffered critical head injuries in an armed attack allegedly over land dispute at Char Khutar intersection in the city Thursday night. Tanjimul Haque, 42, the news editor of Dainik Rajbarta was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Doctors said he needed six stitches to the head, and there are bruises almost all over his body. Haque told journalists that Jamilur Rahman, husband of his wife's elder sister, made the attack following a feud over a piece of land worth about Tk 1 crore. Jamilur has been trying to capture the land depriving his wife since his father-in-law died years ago, he said. Haque said Jamilur and some other relatives were present on the scene when a group of armed men brandishing pistols were beating him up with iron pipes and sticks. Police arrested Jamilur and Selim Khan, a local gang leader, early yesterday after Ajmal Haque, brother of the victim, filed a case with Rajpara Police Station. Protesting the attack, Rajshahi Metropolitan Press Club yesterday demanded immediate arrest of all the accused and a proper investigation.
