The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase in its Sunday's meeting is likely to consider 10 proposals, including the extension of power purchase agreements (PPA) with a number of high-cost rental projects. Official sources said the Power Division has already put forward proposals to extend the agreements with one diesel-run and two gas-fired rental plants. The plants are Agreko's 40MW diesel-fired plant in Khulna and Energyprima's 50MW Kumargaon and 50MW Shahjibazar plants. For purchasing electricity from different private power plants, including those rental ones, the government has to provide a subsidy of about Tk 8000-9000 crore. To provide fuel supply to these private plants, the government has to provide another amount of Tk 12,000 crore in subsidy. The other proposals to be tabled in Sunday's meeting include awarding contract for installation of central tannery effluent plant (CETP), 200,000 tonnes of urea and 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser, earth filling and land development of 1300MW coal-based power plant in Khulna, appointment of separate sponsors for gas-fired 50MW independent power producer (IPP) plant at Ashuganj and gas-fired 100MW IPP at Ghorasal power station.
