Dyeing industry fined for pollution

Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined a dyeing industry at Mawna in Gazipur Tk 10.88 lakh for polluting the environment. DoE fined the authority of “How are You Textile Industry Ltd” and ordered them to repair and operate the effluents treatment plant (ETP). The authority was also warned that its electricity and gas supply will be discontinued if it is caught polluting the environment again. The industry, under Taiwanese ownership, was caught polluting the environment in nine separate drives since March 3, 2007, said a press release adding that its owners sought mercy every time. The DoE inspection team, during the drives, found that the industry was not regularly using the ETP.
