Contributions of Ahmedul Haq recalled
The commemoration of Banglar Rumi Syed Ahmedul Haq, a Sufi researcher, mystic poet and former civil servant, was held on the premises of Institute of Engineers' Bangladesh in the port city on Friday evening.
Citizens' Commemoration Congregation of Chittagong organised the programme where Mohammad Bahauddin, assistant professor of Dhaka University, presented a keynote paper.
In his keynote Bahauddin said reviving mystic poet dervish Jelaluddin Rumi's philosophy Ahmedul Haq engaged himself in establishing a non-communal society on the basis of peace and love.
State Minister for Environment and Forests Hasan Mahmud, Resident Editor of Prothom Alo Poet Abul Momen, PHP Group Chairman Sufi Mizanur Rahman, former adviser of a caretaker government Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, BNP leader Abdullah Al Noman, Awami League lawmaker Aktaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, Prof Dr Jinobodhi Bikkhu, Dr Siddique Ahmed Chowdhury of Chittagong University, former principal Sabih-ul Alam of Chittagong Fine Arts College, Principal Anwara Alam of Agrabad Mahila College and Rotarian Commodore MM Rahman among others spoke at the programme while Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Manjur Alam was in the chair.
