Khaleda intimidating war crimes witnesses
Says Quamrul
Opposition leader Khaleda Zia is intimidating the witnesses in war crime cases to impede the trial process, State Minister for Law Adv Quamrul Islam said at a discussion yesterday.
He said the BNP chief is applying all her techniques to save the war criminals. “She's trying to intimidate the witnesses with her public statements.”
Quamrul said Khaleda is publicly talking against the freedom fighters and took her position beside the Jamaat leaders. “No one but Khaleda can only claim that top Jamaat leaders were not involved in war crimes”.
The discussion titled "Conspiracy of BNP and Jamaat against Independence and Sovereignty: Our Duties" was held at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU). People's Expectation, a pro-Awami League platform, arranged it with its convener MA Karim in the chair.
Industries Minister Dilip Barua, who was the chief guest at the programme, alleged that Khaleda Zia opposed the trial of war criminals and challenged the trial.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's told a city rally on September 28 that they reject the International Crimes Tribunal as it is partisan and demanded release of the top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami detained over war crimes charges.
