Zia orphanage case hearing Oct 27

Staff Correspondent
The High Court (HC) yesterday fixed October 27 for hearing a rule issued over the proceedings against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). Following a petition filed by Khaleda Zia, the HC on October 15, 2009 issued a rule on the government and ACC to explain why the proceedings against Khaleda in the case should not be scrapped. On July 3, 2009, ACC filed the case against Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and five others with Ramna Police Station in connection with embezzling more than Tk 2.10 crore by forming the "fake" organisation Zia Orphanage Trust. The HC bench of Justice Mohammad Anwarul Haque and Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah yesterday set the date for holding hearing on the rule following a prayer moved by ACC counsel Kurshid Alam Khan. Both Khaleda and Tarique earlier got bail from the HC in the case.
