Sustainable Industrial Promotion
Barua for linkage with stakeholders
Industries Minister Dilip Barua yesterday stressed the importance of establishing an effective linkage with IP offices, industries, academia, stakeholders and research and development organisations for sustainable industrial promotion.
“IP (Intellectual Property) is now a crosscutting issue. It's a combination of technology, business and legal matters. A holistic approach and public-private partnership strategy will be a better solution for meaningful development and promotion of IP in Bangladesh,” he said.
Barua was addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day national policy forum on the 'Use of Intellectual Property for Technological Capacity Building, Economic Growth and Development' at Sonargaon Hotel.
World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in cooperation with Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks arranged the event.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Promode Mankin was present as a special guest at the programme, chaired by Industries Secretary KH Masud Siqqui. Registrar of Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks BM Kamal also spoke on the occasion.
Speaking at the function, Barua said sustainable industrial promotion would lead the country towards achieving desired transformation from a trading-oriented economy into a knowledge-based one.
“I think IP issue should be integrated in our ongoing sixth five-year planning process with utmost priority,” he said.
Barua said creativity and innovation have no limit. “As a result, protection, promotion and management of IP is becoming an instrument for national development in the context of globalisation of trade and commerce and emerging knowledge-based world.”
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Promode Mankin said the commitment of the developed countries towards transfer of technology should be followed in spirit.
