New leadership to resolve Kashmir issue urged
Speakers at a seminar stressed the need for new leadership to resolve the unsettled Kashmir disputes between India and Pakistan.
They said regional cooperation in South Asia was hampered due to long-standing conflict between the two countries adding Kashmiri people deserve the right of self-determination and recognised entity.
Prof Dilara Chowdhury said the previous leaders failed to resolve the problem and stressed that leaders from young generation should come forward.
Political risk analyst Subhan Chowdhury, in his keynote paper, said Kashmiri people have grievance with the Indian government, specially the Indian military, which is allegedly violating the human rights.
Former state minister for foreign affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury said the problem of Kashmir was a humanitarian crisis and new vision is needed to address the issue.
South Asia Youth for Peace and Prosperity organised the seminar titled "Kashmir Issue and Unrest South Asia" at RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU).
Prof Syed Anwar Husain, former ambassador Ashfaqur Rahman and New Nation Editor Mostafa Kamal Majumder also spoke, among others, with DU International Relations Chairman Delwar Hossain in the chair.
