Five die in Chandpur road crash
Five people were killed in a road accident in Enayetpur Police Check-post area in Haziganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased are Hasina Begum, 32, wife of Nurul Islam, and their nine years old daughter Nurunnahar Tondra, Khuki, 28, daughter of Amin Uddin, Aziz, 24, son of late Hasmat Ullah Talukder and auto-rickshaw driver Abdul Mannan, 35. All of them hailed from different upazilas of the district.
Mizanur Rahman, OC of Hajiganj Police Station said a Haziganj-bound auto-rickshaw carrying five passengers from Doavanga area of Shahrasti upazila was rammed into a truck coming from the opposite direction leaving four passengers dead on the spot and injuring the auto-rickshaw driver.
Auto-rickshaw driver Mannan succumbed to his injuries at Haziganj Upazila Health Complex.
Our Staff Correspondent reports: A three-year-old girl was run over by a motorbike while playing on KM Das Lane before her maternal grandparents' residence in the city's Sutrapur yesterday.
Deceased Meghla was lone daughter of Dhaka City Corporation sweeper parents Yunus Mia and Jharna Begum of Golapbagh in the city.
Meghla's uncle's Abdul Jalil told the reporter that leaving the motorbike beside Meghla, two motor riders fled away around 2:30pm. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
