English language fairs foster learning

The day-long English Language Fair, jointly organised by The Daily Star and Robi to improve the proficiency of secondary school students in English, was held at three schools of Barisal, Kishoreganj and Bogra yesterday. Under English in Schools programme, the fair in also being coordinated by the education ministry while Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner. Our Barisal correspondent reports: Razapur Girls High School in Razapur upazila town of Jhalakathi district took on a festive atmosphere as its students participated in the fair titled “Shafollo Ashbei”. A movie was screened and later quizzes and competitions were held on vocabulary, moral lessons, extempore speech, role playing and writing picture descriptions. Students also entertained the audience by reciting poems, telling jokes and singing songs. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners and an English Language Club was formed. The school Headmaster Nur Hossain presided over the fair where Robi Jhalakathi Area Manager Shakhawat Hossain was present. Our correspondent from Kishoreganj reports: Hundreds of young learners spent the day taking part in amusing competitions in the fair at Tarail Pilot High School in Tarail upazila. Some 300 students, their teachers and family members took part in the fair where a movie was screened, followed by quizzes on vocabulary, extempore speeches and role playing. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners. The school's Headmaster Abdul Matin Fakir inaugurated the fair. Our correspondent from Bogra adds: At least 200 students of Sherpur DJHE School took part in similar competitions in the fair at the school's auditorium. The school Headmaster Mohammed Kurban Ali, teachers and guardians were also present.
