'Build alternative to 2-party system'
Some left politicians and indigenous leaders yesterday called upon the progressive left democratic forces to unite and build an alternative force outside the existing two-party system in the country's political scenario.
The call came from the national convention of the progressive left democratic activists in the city's Mahanagar Nattya Mancha.
Veteran left politician Pankaj Bhattacharjee chaired the convention that aims to form a national left alliance.
Criticising Awami League (AL) for backing Shamim Osman in the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls, noted columnist Syed Abul Maksud said, "Under this circumstance, we can assume that the ruling party wants to establish 'Osmani' regime in Narayanganj.
Khaleda Zia, who claims herself as a liberal democrat, but accompanying with the anti-liberation forces wants a regime of 'Golam Azom' there.
Khaleda Zia is the mother of the fundamentalists and Sheikh Hasina is the mother of violence."
"We neither want rule of Osmani nor Golam Azam," he added.
Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) President Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, popularly known as Santu Larma, said the government through the latest amendment of the constitution has posed a threat to the existence of the minority communities in the country.
Workers' Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon said he made alliance with AL to fight against corruption and partisan politics. But now all these pledges have become blurred, he added.
The people have turned their back to the grand alliance government for its failure and corruption, said Mujahidul Islam Selim, general secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB).
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haque Inu demanded resignation of 'unskilled' ministers and trial of war criminals.
Pankaj Bhattacharjee blamed the commerce minister for the continuous price hike of daily essentials.
