Wasa drive postponed
Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) had to postpone a scheduled eviction drive in the city's Segunbagicha Canal yesterday, as the programme was not taken up in coordination with the World Bank.
The bank is supposed to implement a development scheme once the canal is freed of illegal encroachment.
The drive was planned to demolish 37 illegal structures on one-km stretch of the canal, said Md Nurul Islam, executive engineer of Dhaka Wasa.
Kazi Wasiuddin, executive magistrate of Wasa, said the authorities decided to postpone the drive on Thursday after receiving a letter from the World Bank requesting the same.
