HC directive sought on govt cooperation with EC
Three people yesterday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking direction on the government to cooperate with the Election Commission (EC) in future polls.
The writ petition also challenged the government decision over not deploying the army for Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) elections despite a request from EC.
Advocate Redowan Ahmed, Advocate Rezowan-e-Khoda and Javed Islam filed the petition as a public interest litigation.
Though the government is bound to provide all assistance to EC for holding elections in line with constitutional provisions, it has not responded to EC in the case of NCC polls, the petitioners said.
A vacation bench of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque asked the petitioners to move it before a regular bench when High Court reopens following Eid vacations, ending on November 13, as the NCC election was already held.
