Realtors fined for noise pollution
The department of environment (DoE) in a drive punished two prominent real estate builders with a hefty fine for creating unbearable noise pollution in Dhanmondi residential area yesterday.
DoE in a drive fined Building Technology and Ideas (BTI) and Urban Design and Development Ltd Tk 7 lakh for the offence.
The developers made people's residential life miserable with terrible noise pollution far beyond permissible level with operations of heavy piling rigs and electric generators simultaneously at construction sites, said Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, director of DoE.
They are constructing two buildings on residential plots.
The environment authorities ordered the companies' high officials to control noise pollution immediately following the environment law.
An on-site test by DoE found the noise level between 82 and 86 while the permissible level is 55 in the area.
The DoE has realised Tk 25 lakh in fine in drives against noise pollution during the past three months.
