RU body to prevent sexual harassment

Students of Rajshahi University would now be able to lodge complaints with a newly formed university committee if they face sexual harassment on the campus. Complaints can be sent over post or directly to the committee President Prof Tanjima Yeasmin of biochemistry and molecular biology department and the Member Secretary Prof Mahbuba Kaniz Keya of psychology department. Prof Tanjima said they would investigate into the allegations and, if proven, take action according to the recently approved Prevention of Sexual Harassment Regulation-2010. The regulation was approved by the university authorities, as per University Grants Commission's instruction, in a syndicate meeting to prevent sexual harassment on the campus, says a press release yesterday. The authorities also formed a seven-member committee to implement the regulation. Sources said at least 14 incidents of physical assault and sexual harassment took place on the campus in the last 10 months.
