Bullet-hit AL leader fighting for life
The publicity secretary of Khulna district Awami League Gazi Abdul Halim, who is battling for life after being shot by unknown men on Sunday, was helicoptered to Dhaka yesterday.
He was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital (BSMMU).
The victim suffered bullet wounds in the head, waist, and back and underwent treatment in Jessore Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
Also chairman of Senhati union parishad, Abdul Halim, fell to the attack in Goalpara area around 3:30pm as he was returning home from a meeting of Digholia Upazila Parishad.
He was immediately taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors referred him to Jessore CMH with life support as his condition was deteriorating even after performing a surgery.
Around 6:00pm on the same day, a group of unidentified youths stormed the Senhati house of expelled general secretary of Digholia upazila Awami League, Molla Akram Hossain.
The youths fired shots and ransacked the house, said Poppy Begum, wife of Akram Hossain. She said the attackers left their house as her husband returned fire in self-defence with his licensed gun.
Nasim Khan, officer-in-charge, Digholia Police Station, said Molla Akram was taken to custody for interrogation in connection with the armed attack on UP chairman Gazi Abdul Halim. The OC said the attack on Gazi Abdul Halim ensued intra-party feuds in Khulna Awami League.
