'Bring masterminds to book'
Speakers at a discussion demanded bringing those people who were masterminds and abetted jail killing of 1975 to the book to ensure justice
Expressing concern over the "possibility of pro-liberation forces' victory" in the next national polls, they also urged the government to work properly in the next two years to regain "its lost popularity" occurred due to various reasons.
Shaheed M Mansur Ali Smriti Sangsad organised the discussion on “Jail Killing” at National Museum in the city.
Four Liberation War heroes--Syed Nazrul Islam, acting president of the Bangladesh government in exile in 1971, Tajuddin Ahmed, prime minister of the same government, M Mansur Ali, finance minister, and AHM Qamaruzzaman, minister for home affairs, relief and rehabilitation--were killed in captivity by some Army officers in Dhaka central jail on November 3, 1975.
Deputy Leader of the parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury said, “Standing on the land, filled by the blood of the martyrs, I swear we will prevent all the anti-liberation forces from the country.”
President of Workers Party of Bangladesh Rashed Khan Menon said the jail killing was not any separate incident. “It was done to eradicate the pro-liberation spirit from the country,” he said.
Former home minister Mohammad Nasim said, “Though I feel bad whenever I hear the story of jail killing, I feel pride that my father (M Mansur Ali) was an uncompromised and bold leader.”
He also urged the government to ban the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from the country.
