Special Eid steamer services from today

Special bus, train services to start Friday

With the eve of Eid-ul-Azha just around the corner, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) starts their special steamer services from today to cope with the rush of home-bound passengers. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Bangladesh Railways will start the special bus and train services from Friday. Three special steamers of the state-run BIWTC will ply Dhaka-Moralganj route daily till November 12, said BIWTC Deputy General Manager (passenger service unit) Sheikh Mohammad Nasim. BRTC will run 300 buses on 20 major inter-district routes from Dhaka till November 10. The routes include those connecting the capital respectively to Rangpur, Bogra, Sirajganj, Kishoreganj, Bhairab, Bajitpur, Comilla, Mymensingh and Meherpur, said BRTC Deputy General Manager (operation) Maj Kazi Shafique Uddin. Special seating arrangement will be taken for women and physically challenged passengers, he said. Apart from scheduled trains, Bangladesh Railway will also operate 14 special trains from November 4 to 14 on different inter-district routes, said Bangaldesh Railway Director (traffic) Shahdat Hossain. The routes include Dhaka-Khulna, Dhaka-Parbotipur, Chittagong-Chandpur and Bhairab-Kishoreganj. Besides, a total of 134 additional bogies will be affixed to the scheduled trains from today. Advance tickets of both government and private buses, trains and launches have been sold out, said source from different modes of transportation. "We have already sold all the bus tickets from November 3 to 6," said Romesh Chandra Ghosh, managing director of Shamoli Paribahan. Cabin tickets of all the scheduled launches from today till November 6 were sold out a week ago, said Badiuzzaman Badal, senior vice-president of the Bangladesh Inland Waterways (passenger carrier's) Association. "We will start operation of special trips from tomorrow or Friday depending on passengers' rush," he said.
