The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday filed a case against 20 officials and staffs of Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited, including its former managing director, for embezzling fertiliser worth over Tk 8 crore. Ten of the accused are currently working at the state-owned factory. The accused include former managing director Mohsin Uddin Talukder, former general manager Mostafa Faruq and former deputy chief chemist Md Sirajul Islam. According to the case statement, the accused, in connivance with each other, misappropriated 17,417 tonnes of fertiliser worth Tk 8,38,62,720 from 2000 to 2005. The plaintiff, ACC Chittagong-1 Assistant Director Md Shafiul Alam, lodging the case with Karnaphuli Police Station, said the documented fertiliser was not found during physical verification. ACC Deputy Director Manjur Ahmed said ACC was designated to probe the incident at the end of 2010 after Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation, operating the factory, held several departmental investigations.
