Hotel staff strangle vendor

A vendor dealing in new currency notes was strangulated at a city hotel room yesterday. Police recovered the body and cash money of more than Tk 1.73 lakh from a room in Hotel Samrat in Laldighi area around 11:00am. The deceased, Md Mujibul Hoque, 55, son of Chunu Mia of Latifpur village at Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni, used to sell new bank notes at the entrance of Chittagong Court Building and reside at the nearby hotel, police said. Police arrested two hotel staff, Mahbub, 22, and his cousin Jahangir, 20, in this connection. During interrogation, both the arrestees confessed to their involvement in the murder in greed of money, said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station. Quoting them, the OC said Mahbub with the help of Jahangir entered the hotel room around 1:30am and strangulated Mujibul. Finding the room door locked till late morning, the hotel owner informed police who later broke open the door and found Mujibul dead. Police also found Mahbub hiding under the bed and arrested him on the spot. A murder case was filed in this connection.
