Worker murdered in Eden college
Unknown criminals killed a worker by slitting his throat near an under-construction dormitory inside Eden Girls' College compound at Azimpur of the city yesterday.
The victim, Nayeb Ali, 40, of Shakhar Hata of Gaibandha, had been working as a cook for the workers since Ruptali Builders started constructing the dormitory three years ago.
Police detained nine persons including two security guards of the college and sub-contractor of the project, Mohammad Tarajul, for interrogation.
Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge, Lalbagh Police Station, said coworkers gave Nayeb around Tk 20,000 to keep it safe, and the money was missing since the killing. He suspected the criminals murdered him for the money.
Police sent the body to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy.
Shamsul Haque, engineer of the project, said the main entrance of the site was kept close at the night, and two security guards watch the building compound round the clock.
Abu Sayeed, a worker, told The Daily Star Nayeb with his two assistant cooks slept on the second floor while some 116 others on the third floor Thursday night.
Coworker Saiful said a bloodstained kitchen knife was found near the spot.
