Australian state minister Marles due Nov 12

Australia's Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs Richard Marles MP will pay a two-day official visit to Bangladesh on November 12-13 to discuss development programmes and climate change. Marles will leave for Bangladesh immediately after attending the Saarc Summit in the Maldives where Australia is an observer, said a press release of Australian High Commission in Dhaka. Marles and his delegation will travel to Char Kukri Mukri to view the Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme, a Bangladesh government and UNDP programme, in coastal areas of Bangladesh highly susceptible to climate change impacts, that Australia supports. He will also visit poverty alleviation projects in Dhaka. Australia is committed to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. In 2011-12, the Australian government will provide an estimated Aus $92 million in development assistance to Bangladesh. Senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Australia and Trade and AusAID in Canberra will accompany Marles.
