Brutality on Minor Girl
SI Shahed suspended
The Chittagong police yesterday suspended sub-inspector (SI) Md Shahed Ali on charge of torturing minor domestic help Romela Khatun.
About two weeks ago, Shahed's wife Sweety Begum pushed Romela into hot water and pressed a hot spoon against the back of the little girl several times in their house of Chittagong. Victim's father Riaz Uddin came to know the misery of his daughter when the SI of Sitakunda Police Station was visiting his in-laws' home in Bera upazila of Pabna on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Romela is now under treatment in Pabna Medical College Hospital.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, Sitakunda police of Chittagong recorded a case against SI Shahed and his wife on charge of torturing the minor girl.
“We have suspended SI Shahed Ali from his post on Saturday night after recording of the case,” Nur-e-Alam Mina, ASP of Chittagong told The Daily Star.
“For impartial investigation, the case has been shifted to detective branch (DB) of police,” said Nur-e-Alam.
SI Bijon Barua of the district DB has been appointed as investigation officer (IO) of the case. The IO has already left Chittagong for Pabna to take statement of the victim, said the ASP.
The police of Pabna and Sirajganj have conducted separate drives at Shahed's residence at Nandiara village in Bera upazila of Pabna and his father-in-law's house at Verakola village in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj early Sunday.
But they were not found at the residences, said the ASP.
