Man shot over land dispute
A man was hit by a bullet when some followers of an alleged land grabber tried to evict the residents of AK Khan Group's staff-colony at Baghghona MR Siddique gate area claiming ownership of its land early yesterday.
Abdur Rashid, 45, son of Mommad Ali, a resident of the colony, was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with bullet wounds.
Residents of the colony alleged that more than 50 people, including some women led by Md Belal Uddin swooped on the colony around 9:30 am and vandalised five houses.
As Rashid tried to resist they shoot him on leg, they said.
According to the witnesses, they also put a signboard claiming the ownership of the land. The sign board reads: “The owner of the land is Md Belal Uddin.”
The residents claimed that they have been living at the colony for about 45 years as the staff of the business giant in the country. Mainly third and fourth class employees of the company live at the colony.
Local ward councilor AF Kabir Ahmed Manik, however, alleged that injured Rashid was shot by a security guard of AK Khan Group.
Police arrested Belal from the spot.
